When considering the purchase of lingerie, prospective buyers, both male and female, often forget to think outside the box. A matching set of lingerie is certainly generally held to include a bra and panties, but what about hosiery? Stockings also come in a wide variety of designs and you might be pleasantly surprised at how sexy the right pair can be, both for the lady to wear and the gentleman to see. Always consider hosiery when shopping for lingerie.

First of all, stockings can be the all-in-one type that covers every inch of your legs and your behind up to the waist. If you are living in a cold climate and you want to wear a skirt, these are an immensely practical choice, but they don’t have to be a purely practical purchase. Like any other fabric, stockings are woven, and like many fabrics today, they can be woven into almost any design. Flowers, birds, dragons, poetry – any and all of these, and much more, can be see twining their way up your legs to vanish under the hem of your skirt and make any interested onlooker ask themselves what else is up there that they can’t see.

Of course, the most obvious thing that springs to mind when we hear the word “stockings” is the thigh high kind that have to be held up with rubber or elastic linings, garters or suspenders. All of these choices have different pros and cons and the chances are that only one will be right for you. Once you find what works for you personally, you will probably never consider anything else, but I would recommend trying all three possibilities before settling on any particular one. After all, one might be great, but the next could be amazing.

Some stockings are designed to stay up more or less by themselves, by virtue of a thin strip of rubber or elastic around the inside of the top of the stocking, which is supposed to grip your skin and thus avoid gravity. The good thing about these is that there is nothing over the top of the stocking to ruin the line of whatever you are wearing over it. The bad thing is that sometimes the rubber or elastic is not strong enough and gravity takes over anyway.

A garter is a very sexy thing to find at the top of a stocking, especially if the man who finds it really wasn’t expecting to. These can also come in myriad designs, so you can make sure that your garter goes with your stockings, bra and panties, just to make sure you get the full effect. Of course you hope the garter doesn’t come off long before either the bra or panties do, but that is down to fate and not something easily controlled. Of course, a garter can interfere with the line of the clothes worn over it, particularly skin-tight pieces.

Last but not least, the classic suspenders are a great option. The pros are that those stockings aren’t going anywhere, held as they are by tiny jaws, front and back. Cons include the fact that sitting on those tiny jaws probably isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world.
