Accident Summary:
AIRCRAFT WAS ENROUTE TO PHUOC VINH, AFTER BEING GIVEN AN END OF
MISSION ON A COMBAT MISSION. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CRUISING AT 2000
FEET WITH ANOTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE ATTACK SECTION, WHEN THE
AIRCRAFT BEGAN BILLOWING BLACK AND GRAY SMOKE. A MAYDAY CALL WAS
MADE. THE AIRCRAFT TURNED TO AN OPEN AREA NEAR A RIVER AND PRIOR
TO CONTACT A CALL WAS MADE BY THE CREW THAT THE AREA COULD BE
REACHED. SHORT OF THE CLEAR AREA THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A TREE,
TURNED ON ITS SIDE, AND FELL TO THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT
BURST INTO FLAMES. THERE WERE TWO FATALITIES.\
